Sample Admissions Essay by Furman University Student

November 30th, 2007 · No Comments

To be completely honest, I am not sure how my presence at Furman would help to foster a diverse and interesting community of students. I firmly believe that every individual is interesting in their own right, and I cannot say who adds or takes away from a community. I do believe that I am different from many people, mainly because of the experiences that I have gone through, and choices that I have made. But then again, who does not think that they are different, interesting, or even special? I can only hope that if I was accepted into Furman that I could help to make other peoples lives more interesting.

I try to make people laugh, in any way I can, and I love to get reactions out of people. I believe I can hold an intelligent conversation with just about anyone who is willing to listen and I hope that that will happen a lot in college. I love to over analyze everything, looking at things from different angles, perspectives, and opinions, and then draw my own conclusions and share them with people. I think that at Furman I could thrive, both academically and socially. I love people and the chance to make new friends. You never know who the next person to walk into your life is and what affect they will have on your life.

In any college, you are going to have people who are smart, witty, funny, and full of personality. I do not think that Furman is any different. From what I have heard, Furman is a vibrant, eager to learn campus of students, and to think that I may have a chance to join this great community is awesome. I am a musician, and if I were to add anything to Furman, it would be my music. I love music and learning about music. I love to play for anyone who is willing to listen to me play, and I am open to anything that would help me grow as a musician. I know that Furman has one of the top music programs in the country, and I believe that I could add to the diversity of the program. I have a fire in me that I will not let falter. I have the dream to be a musician and I will do whatever it takes to get there. I am a determined person who loves to learn, what more could a college ask for? I see college as a chance to be someone, a step in the trek of life, a way to show the world who I am and what I am made of.
